Dole Fresh Fruit Awarded MS Society’s Corporation of the Year for 2010

WILMINGTON, DE, November 19, 2010 - On Saturday, November 6, 2010, Dole Fresh Fruit was awarded the 2010 Corporation of the Year Award by the Delaware Chapter of the National MS Society.  This award was presented to Sean Clancy during the awards program at the chapter’s annual conference, which was held in Dover, Delaware.

The Corporation of the Year Award is presented annually to a corporation that has provided official support to the chapter and its events through underwriting, volunteers, and participation in one or more chapter programs.  Over the years, Dole has been a very generous partner to the Delaware Chapter through its support of many chapter events.  Most notably, through their generous donation of fresh fruit to the chapter’s Walk MS and Bike MS events – especially the Bike to the Bay two-day bike ride.  Each year, the event’s cyclists enjoy more than 5,500 hundred bananas while pedaling to Rehoboth and back thanks to Dole.  In addition, Dole is also a generous supporter of the Thanksgiving Day Run/Walk event for which they donate not only bananas, but also golden pineapples.  The pineapples are one of the most beloved traditions of this event and motivate our participants to run faster in hopes of winning their division and a delicious pineapple as part of their prize.

In 2010, Dole Fresh Fruit formed their first team for the Bike to the Bay event.  Appropriately named “Tour de Fruit,” the Dole team had 24 members and, to date has raised more than $9,000 – almost double their goal!
