World Trade Center Delaware Representative Receives Automated Export System (AES) Compliance Certification
Ready to Help Delaware’s Small Companies Understand the Compliance Process
Wilmington, DE – Sean Kathleen Curran, Director of Client Relations at World Trade Center Delaware, received AES (Automated Export System) Compliance Certification from the Census Bureau and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) last week at a full-day seminar at Temple University in Philadelphia.
Ms. Curran presence at the seminar was part of an effort on behalf of World Trade Center Delaware to keep member companies (typically small and medium-sized businesses) informed about export compliance. “An increasing number of companies are contacting us concerning difficulties they are coming up against in regards to new export and import regulations. It is vital for companies to understand the new requirements of Foreign Trade Regulations and how to avoid possible penalties and seizure of their commodities so that business can run smoothly,” Ms. Curran stated.
The seminar was hosted by the U.S. Commercial Service (USCS), U.S. Foreign Trade Division, an entity actively engaged in educational outreach to help U.S. companies avoid costly penalties.
The Census Bureau experts covered the filing requirements of the Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR), how to classify your commodities by providing an understanding of the Schedule B classification requirements, and provided a thorough overview of the AES. CBP experts expanded upon the program by covering port requirements and efforts against terrorism and international narcotics trafficking.
In addition the Census Bureau demonstrated the new AES website, streamlined and more user-friendly than ever before. A few training seminars are being offered in different locations around the country, to teach exporters about the new mandatory filing of export information through the Automated Export System (AES) or through the AESDirect for all shipments where a Shipper’s Export Declaration was previously required. It should be noted that penalties may be imposed per violation of the FTR for the delayed filing, failure to file, false filing of export information, and/or using the AES to further any illegal activity. Additionally, all AES filers are faced with new filing deadlines determined by mode of transportation for reporting export information.
